Bible Gateway - « The one who is coming after me[a] is a stronger and greater one than I[b]; he would require from me[c] something far more than I could give, and yet he would have me[d] to succeed him[e]... » (John 15:27) What is the difference between John 15:27 in the New American Bible and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)? In the NRSV this verse reads:
"The one who is coming after me is a stronger and better one than I; he would be allowed to deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. But, for the sake of the gospel, I am obligated to preach it to you free of charge, and I don't want anyone to get anything from you."
John 15:27 (NRSV)
In the New American Bible this verse reads:
"He is the one who is coming after me[*] is a stronger and better one than I, because he would be allowed to do things that I can't do; he would take up his cross and follow me. Yet, for the sake of the gospel, I am obligated to give you this in charge. I don't want to become obligated
